Bostik recently announced the winner of its Signature Spaces contest, The Art of Hardwood Flooring. Architects, wood flooring installation contractors, and interior designers were invited to submit floor designs for the lobby of a steakhouse in the new Park MGM Resort in Las Vegas. Competitors were asked to design a striking hardwood floor to complement the restaurant’s aesthetics in the adjacent bar and dining room. The contest specifies that entrants may submit designs with no more than five woods selected from a list of six domestic species, and must use the woods’ natural colors without stain or color-treatment.

A panel of judges comprised of industry professionals has chosen the winning design, “Array” by Jennifer Sheets, interior designer at Studio R Interiors, a Colorado-based firm specializing in hospitality design and procurement. In addition to having her design produced by Oshkosh Designs to be installed in the Park MGM Resort restaurant, she will be awarded a trip for two to Paris, France. Eagle Bay Hardwood Flooring will provide wood flooring material for the remainder of the restaurant to complement the lobby work of Sheets and Oshkosh Designs.

“My concept for the Bostik’s Signature Spaces Contest was inspired by the Art Noir movement; interlocking geometric shapes and stylized symmetry which was specified in the contest guidelines as a prerequisite of the project,” said Sheets. “The pattern depicts an array of interchanging shapes that harmoniously fit within a symmetrical medallion. I created my ‘Array’ design to complement, as well as enhance, the herringbone featured floors throughout the main restaurant space.”
