As part of its focus on sustainability and transparency, HMTX Industries will present  the upcoming CEU webinar "The Role of Flooring in Healthy Indoor Spaces" on Tuesday, June 30th at 1:00 PM EST. Hosted by USGBC on the GreenBuild website, this session will provide resources and guidance on the proper cleaning and maintenance techniques for residential, commercial and healthcare buildings. The four HMTX in-house expert panelists will open the conversation by demonstrating how to balance the need for a hygienic indoor environment with a common-sense approach to maintaining a healthy indoor space. Presenting will be HMTX’s Chief Sustainability & Quality Officer Rochelle Routman, Director of Training Rick Taylor, Product Support Manager Jay Zurn; and Teknoflor’s Tim Davis, Vice President of Technical Services/Sales. The complimentary webinar is part of Greenbuild Digital Education’s Health & Wellness Series.

The Learning Objectives are:

  • Describe the differences of floor cleaning practices depending upon building use.
  • Identify the potential impact of flooring cleaning systems on healthy indoor spaces and how to minimize impact.
  • Describe and communicate floor cleaning and maintenance procedures to building owners.
  • Summarize the cleanability of various flooring types.

Due to increased concerns about the pandemic brought on by COVID-19, there's a strong and heightened interest in healthy indoor spaces. The need to properly clean and maintain flooring must be balanced with other indoor health concerns. Proper techniques, frequency, and practices are now more important than ever for any building owner or manager. “The Role of Flooring in Healthy Indoor Spaces” will explore these best practices during this 60-minute presentation. The course GB20WEB0630 has been approved by the AIA for HSW (Health Safety and Wellness) credit and by the GBCI (Greenbuild Certification Institute) 920022126. Architects are required to have 18 hours of Learning Units per year to keep certification, and 12 of those learning units must be HSW courses. Interior Designer Continuing Education Council (IDCEC) approval is pending.

“The COVID pandemic has awakened us to think much more in-depth and clearly about what the healthy living/working environment now means across all industries,” said Director of Training Rick Taylor. “Employees and end users must feel comfortable knowing that business owners are doing everything they can to make them feel safe at the office or home environments. Our CEU will help architects understand the differences between flooring types and why some are more conducive to healthier indoor environments than others, because of the nature of how difficult or easy it is to clean, disinfect and maintain them.”
