Bentley Prince Street’s new high-speed tile backing production line at its headquarters in City of Industry, Calif.

Bentley Prince Street has launched a new “green” backing technology for its latest line of carpet tile. The technology uses recycled content and results in a reduced overall product weight and a shorter manufacturing time for a lower environmental footprint, according to the company.

“We’re taking a whole-systems approach to improving both our products and our processes to eliminate our potential impact on the environment,” said Anthony Minite, president of Bentley Prince Street. “Recycled products are important, but they’re only one piece in a very large puzzle to get to a fully sustainable operation. Equally important is how products are made – the type and amount of energy and materials used as well as the processes behind them.”

In development for three years, the thermoplastic technology is part of a $5.2 million custom-designed backing line that “puts sustainable commerce into action,” according to the company. The thermoplastic technology will be available in 18” by 18”, 36” by 36” and 50cm by 1m tiles in a variety of styles and patterns.
