Building on its Green Edge environmental initiative, Shaw Industries confirmed that all of its nylon area rugs are now fully cradle to cradle recyclable. Shaw Living area rugs use Type 6 nylon, a material that can be converted into almost new nylon fiber at Shaw’s Evergreen recycling plant in Augusta, Ga. The company also noted that its rugs made using Anso nylon contain recycled content.

Kim Barta, Shaw Living’s brand manager, said the company’s focus on cradle-to-cradle rugs has led to significant advances in the line. Shaw’s first cradle-to-cradle collections debuted last July. “All of our nylon area rugs are recyclable, meaning half of all Shaw area rugs are now recyclable,” she said. “These beautiful nylon area rugs allow the consumer to make an easy eco-friendly choice for her home without sacrificing style, color or convenience.”

Shaw said it is marking its area rugs with new tags listing the green benefits of the product. The tag also directs consumers to the www.shawfloors.com/recycle webpage, which includes an online locator to find the nearest carpet collection sites.
