Multiply up to speed following recent fire

Less than one month after a fire gutted its mill in Nipigon, Ontario, Multiply Forest Products says it has caught up with all its standing orders. The company moved its operations to a sister plant in Longac, Ontario, about two hours north of Nipigon. Multiply vp Doug Melien noted that the company lost a few orders during the transition and rerouting between mills. Still, he noted that the situation has been greatly helped by support from the surrounding community and the loyalty of long time customers.

“We have been awestruck by the overwhelming support and community support we have seen,” said Melien. “Our customers and our employees have especially been loyal,” adds Melien. “We are the largest, oldest and most trusted producer out there…and we have been humbled by the responses we have received.”

He added that plans are underway for an upgrade that will bring the Longac facility to first-class standards within 18 months to two years. The company is also seeking the advise of engineering firms to determine if rebuilding the Nipigon mill is feasible.
