NWFA Members Partner for 2012 Service Project

November 5, 2012

Spearheaded by Board Vice Chairman of the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA), John Lessick, NWFA members have come together for a unique community service project. In an effort to bridge the gap of those in need, NWFA is partnering with the non-profit organization, EdgeAlliance, to help respond to the needs of homeless veterans.

EdgeAlliance is a leader in supporting individuals and families by providing affordable housing and progressive services to homeless veterans and also to children, women and men who have been impacted by HIV/AIDS.

This year, EdgeAlliance is renovating a four-unit Chicago greystone building, which will house eight bedrooms in a total of three apartments (approximately 1,000 square feet per apartment). The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA) and Chicago-based non-profit, Designs for Dignity (D4D), have contributed grant money and architectural/design services. Additionally, NWFA members – Apex Wood Floors, WD Flooring, Shaw Industries Group and Somerset Wood Products – collectively donated labor and 3,000 square feet of wood flooring to be laid in the Alpha House residing in Chicago’s North Lawndale community at 1236 S. Sawyer.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is slated to take place this fall in honor of the project’s completion and all those who contributed and supported this comprehensive effort.
