Invista is investing over $65 million in fiber production equipment at its Camden, S.C., facility to expand capacity of Nylon 6.6 fiber. This investment will increase domestic U.S. capacity of high-tenacity, specialty fibers used in Cordura fabrics. These durable fabrics offer valuable solutions in military applications such as bags, backpacks, and ballistic vest carriers as well as a wide variety of commercial end-uses such as hiking boots and hunting gear, workwear, and many other outdoor and lifestyle apparel and equipment products. The new assets will also be capable of manufacturing bulked continuous filament and high-quality fibers for airbags and industrial sewing threads.

“This investment is utilizing a combination of patented and proprietary technology with flexibility such as solution dyeing which enables increased innovation opportunities around fiber properties and performance and creates a strong platform for our future growth,” said Jeff Brown, executive vice president, Invista performance materials division. “Camden is an ideal location being situated in the heart of the textile industry. As Invista’s largest integrated nylon polymer and fiber producing facility, this site offers an ideal footprint for reinvesting in high performance solutions for the markets we serve.”
