USG Corp. Addresses Code Compliance of Gypsum Underlayment Solutions
Chicago, Ill. -- USG Corp. introduced a new portfolio of UL-Classified products, enabling contractors, designers and specifiers to repair old, damaged gypsum subfloors in fire-rated assemblies while ensuring the assembly remains code compliant. The robust suite reinforces USG’s focus on providing innovative solutions through actionable education and leadership.
Since multifamily structures must be designed in accordance with the requirements of UL for fire-resistance, USG has undergone extensive testing to ensure USG gypsum-based floor preparation products will keep projects code compliant in fire-rated assemblies.
All of USG’s gypsum-based product solutions are manufactured under the Classification and Follow-Up Services of Underwriters Laboratories (UL). USG’s gypsum-based product solutions are classified by UL and are tested per the Standard ASTM E119/UL 263 for use in more than 130 fire-rated floor/ceiling assemblies. Each bag carries the UL Marking with the designation “Type LRK”, “Type HSLRK” or “Type CSD.”
Only products with UL type designations can be used to renovate or rehabilitate compromised gypsum underlayment used in a one- or two-hour UL fire-rated design. USG Gypsum Underlayment Repair Solutions will help maintain code compliance for fire, but the products may also contribute to meeting the requirements needed for sound control per Section 1207 of the International Building Code (IBC).
“If the exact methodology and products listed in a fire-rated UL Design assembly aren’t used to build or repair that assembly, you do not have a compliant assembly,” said Brett Fleury, product marketing manager of performance flooring for USG. “Because safety is never an afterthought at USG, we ensure all USG Levelrock Brand and USG Durock Brand gypsum-based products are UL Classified and specified for use in the most popular fire-rated assemblies.”
The USG gypsum underlayment repair solutions portfolio includes pourable and trowelable solutions. The products can be used to rejuvenate a bad floor and provide a new durable smooth surface ready to receive today’s most demanding floor coverings. The portfolio includes: USG Durock Brand Quik-Top Self-Leveling Underlayments; USG Durock Brand Quik-Top FR (Fiber-Reinforced) Self-Leveling Underlayments; USG Durock Brand Multi-Use Self-Leveling Underlayment; USG Durock Brand Tuf-Skim Floor Patch.
