Symbiotic is a carpet collection that embraces contrast and melds together two unexpected elements into a rich, dramatic array of patterns. The hospitality collection captures an interesting juxtaposition of organic and geometric elements through the smooth, scrawling script of written text, and the sharp contrast of light hitting the meticulously faceted edges of gemstones.

“The weaving and blending of these two very different elements create a bold interaction and lavish, layered palette of texture, contrast and color,” said Meg Turner, the designer of Symbiotic and 2017 grand prize winner of the dscvr Student Design Competition.

Symbiotic, which is Turner’s first flooring collection, is featured in Durkan’s innovative Definity broadloom technology, which redefines luxury performance with patterning and textures never before seen in the industry. Enhanced surface detailing provides more than twice the definition of any other high-end hospitality carpet. Durkan’s exclusive technology creates precision sculpted dimension for incredible visual and tactile experiences. Symbiotic is also available in Durkan’s PDI and CYP technologies, in addition to tufted broadloom and carpet tile formats.

The dscvr program is a hospitality design contest sponsored each year by Durkan and NEWH that identifies and exhibits the talent of university/college student designers. Turner’s achievements as a Utah State University student competing in 2017 and 2016 ultimately led to a job offer with Durkan, where she works as a field designer. Now in its ninth year, dscvr is currently accepting artwork submissions through Friday, March 15, 2019, for the latest contest.
