Mohawk Flooring hosted a special American flag raising ceremony to honor its employees and celebrate its unique American heritage. Floor Trends was on site at the company's Union Grove campus this week where 15 area employees with 30 or more years of service were celebrated.

"For the past decade, Mohawk has sponsored the Fourth of July festivities in Calhoun," said Jeff Lorberbaum, chief executive officer, Mohawk Industries. "This year, we’re celebrating a little earlier with the unveiling of the largest American flag in Georgia. The flag represents our pride in being an American company and honors the thousands of men and women whose great work have helped us grow and prosper."

Local dignitaries joined the event, including Northwest Georgia Council Mayor Jimmy Palmer; Calhoun, Ga.; City Council member Jackie Palazzolo; Calhoun, Ga., City Administrator Eddie Peterson; Dalton Mayor Dennis Mock; Rome, Ga., Mayor Bill Collins; Jason Winters, the Sole Commissioner of Chattooga County; and Faith Collins, Chair of the Rome City School Board. Regional state legislators in attendance included Senator Chuck Payne from District 54, Representative Matt Barton from District 5 and Representative Katie Dempsey from District 13.

Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta joined in on the festivities, raising the flag during the ceremony, and they received badges for their uniforms. Rebecca Howell of Cochran, Georgia, most recently featured on NBC’s The Voice, performed the national anthem.
