the boutique line of custom, handcrafted designer carpets from Aronson’s Floor Covering, has collaborated with Australian interior designer Tali Roth for the 2019 designer collection: ‘A Week in Venice.' Comprised of six styles inspired by a distinctly Italian aesthetic, rich color palettes, and natural fibers, ‘A Week in Venice’ tells a timeless story with a fresh, modern voice.

"This collection is the culmination of personal experiences and historical references,” said Roth. “My love of flooring began from a young age, as my grandfather was a developer and all of his buildings had terrazzo flooring or Palladian style paved marble. In 2018, I spent a week in Venice and was blown away by the intricate marble and terrazzo work. ‘A Week in Venice’ combines these memories with Empire Collection’s signature quality and approach to material.”

Made from fine wool and Tencel, each style boasts a luxurious hand, bespoke feel, and rigorous performance specifications. As a versatile interior designer known for her creative and contemporary style, Roth’s signature, unexpected approach to texture and color abounds in each design. Roth combined her residential and commercial project experience with Aronson’s material finesse to craft styles that combine a subtle, refined aesthetic and expressive design for rugs that make a statement without overpowering the spaces they inhabit.

Each design is one-of-a-kind, but organic colorways, playful details, and inherent customization run throughout for a thoughtfully cohesive and artisanal collection. ‘A Week in Venice’ is Roth’s first product line and features six designs: 1969, Scarpa’s Window, The Venetian, La Mia Famigilia, Milano Stripe, and Peggy’s Party.

“Empire Collection is dedicated to bringing designers’ visions to life,” said Carol Swedlow, president of Aronson’s Floor Covering. “And with ‘A Week in Venice,’ we continue that commitment. Tali has a natural talent for finding new ways to explore color and texture, which is a perfect match to Empire’s handcrafted, custom capabilities and sophisticated style. The collection brings together decades of skilled artisanship with Tali’s vivid imagination and a shared, deep appreciation for creativity. We can’t wait to debut our newest collaboration and continue to celebrate the craftsmanship and vision behind it.”

A direct interpretation of Tali’s favorite terrazzo, 1969 is bigger and bolder with its enlarged scale and two rich colorways, Natural and Rust. 1969 pays homage to an iconic Italian material while also referencing a funky, minimalistic animal print through its tonal versions. Developed in tandem with 1969, Peggy’s Party explores a louder, more playful side to terrazzo with its dynamic color palette, while still complementing the rest of the collection thanks to Roth’s signature tone-on-tone approach.

An age-old, traditional pattern invigorated for modern day, The Venetian turns the nostalgic, diamond-grid design on its head with intricate textures, high-end sheen, and three chic colorways (Chocolate/Beige; Rust/Peach; and Natural). The most personal design of Tali’s collection, La Mia Famiglia is centered around an abstract idea of a 1950’s family vacation. Designed while Tali was pregnant with her second child, La Mia Famiglia reflects both childhood memories and the transition through motherhood with its whimsical, unique design and comforting texture, available in Sage and Melon.

Milano Stripe makes a timeless design fresh again with a luxurious, sexy feel that mimics the masculine pinstripe of a well-made Italian suit. The quiet achiever of the group, Milano Stripe is infinitely versatile and elegantly subtle in Olive or Chocolate. Inspired by Tali’s visits to Italian architectural institutions from Carlo Scarpa, the design of Scarpa’s Window mimics the trademark patterns found within each building, particularly within their windows and doors. Scarpa’s Window marries classic geometry with colorful energy in Navy, Rust, Sage, and Melon.

In response to demand from the commercial market for design-forward flooring solutions, select designs are also available in commercial editions with extra durable constructions.

'A Week in Venice' will debut at BDNY, Nov. 10-11 in New York City, alongside new launches from the Empire Collection by Aronson’s Floor Covering (booth #4129). This will be Aronson’s Floor Covering’s first time exhibiting at BDNY.
