Answering the call of growing consumer demand for sustainable flooring options, Mohawk Industries will launch an entirely new EverStrand Soft Appeal line of premium soft polyester carpet in 2020, as well as expand the storied EverStrand collection for a greater assortment of stylish, environmentally conscious carpet options.

As one of the world’s leading recyclers of plastic bottles, Mohawk has recycled more than 40 billion plastic bottles since starting the Continuum process, which diverts these bottles from landfills by repurposing them into fiber for EverStrand carpet products.

“It’s no secret that consumers are showing increasing interest in eco-friendly products,” said Angela Duke, director of brand marketing. “That’s why it’s important for them to know that Mohawk is committed to making a positive impact on the earth. We create both EverStrand and EverStrand Soft Appeal with recycled plastic, mostly from plastic bottles. It resonates deeply because that’s a sustainable source that most consumers use every single day.”

The 2020 launch of the EverStrand Soft Appeal soft polyester collection will include a total of nine all-new products:

  • Four premium ultra-soft solid and tonal cut pile carpets that boast tight construction and a luxuriously soft, ultra-clean finish.
  • Two solid and tonal cut pile, textured carpets featuring premium softness and high bulk at an exceptional value.
  • Three high fashion, multi-level tonal patterns for enhanced design capability.

“The beauty of the sustainability story that lives within the entire EverStrand carpet family is that making our carpet from recycled bottles truly creates a better product,” explained Brett Beavers, product director. “The yarn that is created from this quality PET not only produces a silky soft fiber but also offers superior strength, stain resistance, dependable durability and illustrious color clarity. These combined attributes make EverStrand the cleanest, most sustainable carpet for your home.”

The expanded 2020 EverStrand collection will include all-new products such as:

  • An assortment of five solution-dyed, loop pattern carpets in various constructions and weights.
  • Three tight and tailored, solution-dyed, multi-color cut pile textured carpets.
  • Two tonal pattern value carpets to add to the current assortment of 25 styles.

Both EverStrand and EverStrand Soft Appeal use, on average, 63 reclaimed plastic bottles per each square yard. In 2019 alone, Mohawk recycled 6.6 billion plastic bottles, enough to wrap around the earth more than 33 times.

In addition to being a sustainable option created from recycled materials, the full EverStrand line now holds third-party certifications that illustrate Mohawk’s leadership in product transparency and commitment to manufacturing flooring that helps contribute to healthy spaces. EverStrand and EverStrand Soft Appeal recently achieved rigorous Declare Red List-free status certification from the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), as well as a Health Product Declaration (HPD) from the Health Product Declaration Collaborative.

ILFI’s Declare program provides a clear, elegant and informative “nutrition label” for building products. Declare aligns with Mohawk’s commitment to transparency and helps consumers make conscious, informed decisions. An HPD objectively provides the critical information needed to support accurate supply chain disclosure to consumers.
