The International Surface Event (TISE) kicked off the third regional installation competition in San Leandro, California at the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) training facility. The competition has five competitors in the wood and the carpet category for a total of ten. One will be selected from each category to go on to the Finals at Surfaces 2023 where they will have a chance at the National Installer of the Year title.
Just like the Regional Competitions held in Orlando, Florida and St. Louis, Missouri, a written test is administered prior to the competition followed by the work order each competitor must follow for the category in which he is competing. Competitors will be judged based on how closely they follow the work order.
The wood category competitors are Hugo Hernandez with MS Rouse Company from Covina, California; Hasan Basic with D.S. Baxley Inc. from San Ramon, California; Mariano Sanchez with D.S. Baxley Inc. from Tracy California; Joseph Edmond with Andersons from Concord, California; and Brett Potter with D.S. Baxley Inc. from Tracy, California.
The carpet category competitors are Robert Herrera with MS Rouse Company from La Puente, California; Adam Furlanic with Furlanic Floors from Santa Cruz, California; Justin Lopez with D.S. Baxley Inc. from Livermore, California; Gary Harrison with IUPAT DC16 from Pinole, California; and Jesus Cervantes with All County Flooring from San Jose, California.
Winners will be announced Friday 28, 2022 at the conclusion of the competition.
