Area rug manufacturer Flor has expanded its innovative carbon-negative collection with the introduction of Terra Nova, a new rug style that continues the company's ambitious sustainability mission while maintaining its commitment to sophisticated design.
Launched on Earth Day 2025, Terra Nova represents the latest addition to Flor's carbon-negative portfolio that began in 2022. These specially designed rugs store more carbon than is released during their production process, effectively turning carbon into a climate solution rather than a problem.
The new Terra Nova collection offers two distinctive colorways, Dune and Topaz, inspired by traditional handwoven textiles while meeting contemporary design trends. According to Kelly Simcox, head of global design at Interface, the style captures the popular handcrafted aesthetic currently trending in both residential and commercial interior design.
Flor's carbon strategy follows a simple approach: avoid, reduce, and store more carbon than is released. The company reports impressive progress with over 39,000 carbon-negative carpet tiles sold to date, with environmental benefits equivalent to not charging 710,271 smartphones or preserving nine acres of forest.
