High-end modular rug brand Flor announced a collaboration with interior designer and TV personality Brian Patrick Flynn to transform his mid-century modern home using custom area rugs that blend sophisticated style with family-friendly functionality. The partnership coincides with the launch of Flor's Summer Collection, introducing three new versatile styles designed to create memorable spaces.
Flynn, founder of Flynnside Out Productions, is reimagining his home's design to accommodate his new role as a father, seeking to "kid-proof" his spaces without compromising his signature aesthetic. The designer turned to FLOR to add soft surfaces throughout his previously all-hardwood home, creating distinct personalities for each room while ensuring the designs can withstand daily family life.
This marks the second collaboration between Flynn and Flor, rekindling a partnership that began in 2004 when Flynn was early in his career. "At that time, an area rug made of carpet tiles was such an innovative concept that no one else was doing," Flynn said. "What I love about this collaboration with Flor is that now, 21 years later, I'm able to work with the brand again and build upon my design mentality that interiors can be beautiful and practical."
Flynn's design approach has evolved since becoming a father, incorporating softer accent pieces, rounded edges, and performance fabrics while maintaining his love for mid-century modern design and bold color. For this project, Flynn is experimenting with wall-to-wall custom designs reminiscent of 1960s style, working closely with FLOR's design team to create unique rugs for each space.
"Every time you look down, you'll be transitioning from one color to another pattern," Flynn said. "My daughter's playroom will feature a custom buffalo checkered design with blues, purples, and whites, while our nursery will embrace more of a muted design with a blush color palette."
The collaboration launches alongside Flor's Summer Collection, featuring three new styles designed to make statements while offering versatility:
- Jute Box: A textured, neutral jute-inspired area rug providing a strong foundation for any space, available in Jute and Bone
- Swirling Around: A playful pattern bringing movement to floors through rounded visuals, available in Chalk/Silver, Cloud/Silver, and Tundra/Gold
- Rooted Comfort: A natural, two-toned style designed to ground and elevate spaces, available in Fawn and Pigeon
