PureCycle and Emerald Carpets Partner to Create Sustainable Trade Show Carpet Solution

The goal of the Japan Recycle Carpet Association (JRCA) and its stakeholders with the full backing of the Japanese government, is to increase recycled carpet tiles’ market share from 20% to 50% by 2025, significantly reducing the environmental impact.

PureCycle Technologies, Inc. and Emerald Carpets have announced a partnership to revolutionize the trade show carpet industry through closed-loop recycling technology. The collaboration aims to create the first truly circular carpet production system for the commercial events sector.
Under the partnership agreement, Emerald Carpets will purchase approximately five million pounds annually of PureCycle's PureFive resin for immediate integration into their fiber production. The recycled polypropylene resin will enable Emerald Carpets to exceed California's current recycled content requirements while preparing for stricter carpet-to-carpet mandates taking effect in 2028.
The innovative partnership goes beyond traditional supply agreements by establishing a complete circular system. PureCycle will recycle used trade show carpets from Emerald Carpets, transforming the waste material into purified fiber-grade recycled polypropylene pellets. These pellets will then be used to manufacture new carpets, creating a sustainable carpet-to-carpet solution.
The companies plan to collaborate throughout 2025-2026 at their respective facilities in Dalton, Georgia, and Ironton, Ohio, to develop and scale the recycling process. Successful trials using PureCycle's purpose-formulated PureFive Choice resin have already demonstrated the viability of high-performance carpets made with post-consumer recycled content.
The partnership addresses a significant industry challenge, as traditional mechanically recycled polypropylene has been difficult to incorporate into carpet fiber manufacturing due to quality limitations. PureCycle's dissolution recycling technology enables manufacturers to reduce reliance on virgin materials while maintaining carpet performance standards required for demanding trade show environments.
