Rainier-Backed SCI Acquires Baltimore Flooring Firm

SCI Flooring, backed by Seattle-based private equity firm Rainier Partners, has completed its third add-on acquisition with the purchase of Baltimore-based Flooring Partners, significantly expanding the platform's geographic footprint from its Midwest stronghold to East Coast markets.
The acquisition brings together two complementary flooring service providers focused on multi-family, commercial, and retail clients. Founded in 1990 and employee-owned since 2021, Flooring Partners operates across Maryland, Washington D.C., Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and Ohio through its recent acquisition of Flooring Edge.
"From the outset of our conversations, we felt Flooring Partners would be a great fit with SCI from both a cultural and operational standpoint," said Flooring Partners CEO Bob Nichols. "As we've spent more time with Dave and his team at SCI, that conviction has only strengthened."
Detroit-based SCI has built a leading position in Midwest floor covering services, operating under multiple brand names including SCI Floor Covering, MC Flooring, Eastpointe Interiors, United Carpet, and Carpetbaggers across Michigan, Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana. The addition of Flooring Partners strengthens the platform's exposure to the multi-family tenant turnover market while providing expansion opportunities with existing customers in new regions.
"Bob Nichols and the rest of the executive team share our focus on customer service and operational excellence," said SCI CEO Dave Elberson. "Flooring Partners' scale, complementary footprint, and world-class leadership team will reinforce SCI's position as a leading Midwest flooring provider."
The deal represents continued consolidation in the fragmented flooring services industry, where regional players are combining to achieve greater scale and geographic diversification. Rainier Partners, which manages over $400 million in assets and focuses on lower middle-market services businesses, is actively pursuing additional flooring acquisitions to further expand the platform.
"SCI's partnership with Flooring Partners represents an exciting leap forward in terms of operational capabilities and growth potential for the platform," said Rainier Principal Luke Bench.
The combined entity now serves property managers and builders across a broad geographic area spanning from the Midwest through the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Rainier Co-Founder and Managing Partner Alex Rolfe noted the strategic importance of the acquisition: "We are honored to welcome the Flooring Partners team to the SCI platform as we collectively embark on this new chapter in the company's evolution."
The private equity firm continues to seek additional partnerships with flooring businesses as it builds out the SCI platform through both organic growth and strategic acquisitions.
