Costikyan Carpets' Silk and Wool Collection in Saguaro III style.
The Atlanta International Area Rug Market takes place Jan. 16-19, and exhibitors are ready to spotlight high style through their latest area rug introductions. The market, sponsored again this year through a partnership of AmericasMart Atlanta and the Oriental Rug Importers Association (ORIA), will also offer seminars and promotional programs for those interested in buying and selling handmade, machine-made and antique area rugs.

The market will again feature the ORIA’s annual National Oriental Rugs Show, which offers one of the largest draws for exhibitors and buyers of Oriental rugs in the country. In addition, a Gallery of America’s Magnificent Carpets will open Jan. 17 and run through the end of the market. This gallery will showcase rugs entered in the America’s Magnificent Carpets Awards competition, which honors top designs from area rug importers and manufacturers around the globe. The awards are hosted by AmericasMart Atlanta, the United Nations Development Program and the government of India, in conjunction with the ORIA.

Following are some of the newest offerings from select area rug manufacturers and importers that will debut at the market.

Capel Inc. has partnered with Navajo weavers in Santa Fe, N.M., to bring about the Woven Spirits Collection of eight hand-weaved Navajo rugs. Each of these authentic floor coverings is signed by the weaver who created it.

This series of rugs utilizes hand-dyed wool yarns -- in colors including teal, aqua, dark terra cotta, and green -- that Capel supplied to the weavers. The rugs are created on traditional Navajo looms in four sizes: 27-by-48 inches, 30-by-56 inches, 30-by-84 inches, and 4-by-6 feet.

All of the patterns in Capel’s Woven Spirits Collection are designed by Rachel Brown, a Taos, N.M.-based textile designer, and are patterned after traditional Navajo themes, the company says.

Couristan's Alamgir Collection in Arabesque/Bay Leaf style.
Costikyan Carpets Inc. will preview its 60-knot Silk and Wool Collection of Tibetan carpets at the market. This collection boasts 10 new designs, including one inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright.

The Wright design is named Saguaro III and features geometric patterns in a soft palette. Another collection standout is Osaka, a contemporary pattern of alternating light and dark vertical bands in irregular shapes with striations to mimic the feeling of tree bark.

Couristan will introduce several handmade and one power-loomed area rug collection at the Atlanta market. Handmade introductions will include the Alamgir, Sherpa and Super Indo-Natural collections, while the Everest Collection will be the sole power-loomed introduction.

The Alamgir Collection features traditional Persian designs hand-knotted out of 100 percent hand-spun wool. The collection’s all-wool pile is luster-washed for a sheen finish. Alamgir is available in a variety of fringed sizes.

The Sherpa Collection is hand-knotted using an Indo-Tibetan weave. Sherpa’s pile incorporates a hard twist yarn and enlarged motifs. The unfringed collection is available in three sizes.

The Super Indo-Natural Collection is hand-crafted in blends of 100 percent undyed natural wool. The collection features bold brush stroke patterns and a cut and loop pile with tone-on-tone colorations of natural taupe and brown.

The Everest Collection offers a super-dense weave and soft finish made from premium 1250 D-Tex yarn. The thick pile offers one million points per square meter. The unfringed collection is available in four designs styled from traditional patterns and colorations.

828 International's Accents Collection.
828 International continues to expand its Accents Collection with new patterns. Seven new offerings will premiere at the Atlanta Rug Market.

Accents is a collection of hand-hooked cotton rugs. These richly colored, themed rugs come in a full array of botanical, nautical, floral, country and traditional designs. Each pattern is offered in several sizes, including 6-foot rounds and 2-by-8-foot runners.

Feizy Rugs will introduce three new machine-woven lines at the Atlanta Rug Market -- the Plaza, Verona and Monroe collections.

The Plaza Collection is meant to interpret the splendor of the homes of European monarchs, whereas the Verona Collection is styled to echo the elegance of the great halls and salons of European culture, and the Monroe Collection is designed to reflect contemporary styles.

Additionally, Feizy will introduce several new hand-knotted and hand-tufted collections under the rubric of the Feizy Home Collection. The Reflections Collection is meant to create a subtle accent or primary decorative key with traditional weaving techniques. The Wimbledon Collection is woven of pure wool in a rich palette. The Sonora Collection features a unique grouping of natural, hand-tufted jute rugs that combine texture with geometric patterns.

Finally, Feizy will introduce the Venetian Collection under the company’s Fine Rug line. The Venetian Collection is meant to capture the elegance pioneered by Persian weavers in a hand-knotted rug with an opulent palette that makes use of wool and silk.

Karastan's Ashara Collection in the Amiritsar style.
Karastan’s latest entry is Ashara, a collection of Axminster rugs meant to recreate the look of Peshawar rugs, that’s available in Agra, Herati, Amritsar, and Sultanabad styles. Rugs from the collection are woven of premium, fully worsted New Zealand wool, and carry the Wools of New Zealand brand.
