MERCERVILLE, N.J. -- Congoleum has been awarded a patent that protects the technology used in the creation of Congoleum's wear surfaces.

The patented technology is used in the formulation of Ultima's wear surface and DuraStone's surface glaze.

Congoleum's achievement marks the first industry patent awarded for a floorcovering utilizing texture and nanotechnology.

Ultima's wear surface is reinforced and strengthened with micro-sized nylon particles and aluminum oxide for scratch, wear and impact resistance, and features a low gloss, natural look.

DuraStone's surface glaze features a satin-gloss acrylic polymer matrix for stain and scratch resistance, and easy maintenance.

Nylon particles are suspended in the surface glaze to guard against wear and create a realistic texture.
