Illinois Tool Works Inc. reported higher-than-expected third quarter earnings. It also forecast full-year profit at the high end of its
previous outlook.
ITW said third-quarter net income rose to $268.9 million, or 87 cents a
share, from $245.5 million, or 79 cents, a year ago. Revenue rose 1 percent in its North American engineered products division, one of its biggest units. Within that unit, strength in the
construction and Wilsonart laminate floor and kitchen countertops business
offset weakness in the automotive segment.
