GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Lees Carpets, a division of Burlington Industries Inc., won several awards at the NeoCon World's Trade Fair 2001 commercial furnishings exhibition at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago.

Metafloor by Lees earned top honors at the show, including the Gold Best of NeoCon and Most Innovative awards in the boadloom category. In addition, Metafloor was chosen from among 255 products entered in 26 distinct interior furnishings categories as Best of Competition. This marked the first time in the competition's history that a floor covering product was recognized as the Best of Competition.

Metafloor is a hybrid product that offers the attributes of hard surfaces, including durability to withstand heavy-wheeled traffic, and the functionality of carpeting -- including slip resistance and sound-deadening properties, the company said. The product features Lees' Duracolor stain-resistant dye technology and Unibond backing system. Lees has applied for patent protection on the product and for the way in which it is made. Metafloor will be available for shipment in the December quarter. Another new product by Lees, NeoFloor, earned a Buildings Innovations Award in the Workplace Aesthetics category. This competition honors products that provide forward-thinking solutions for the workplace.
