Harris-Tarkett, the hardwood flooring subsidiary of Domco Tarkett Inc., has acquired the former Burruss facility -- a 165,000-square-foot plant in Brookneal, Va. that includes pre-dryer and kiln-drying operations, two production lines and warehousing -- for $3.5 million.

The move, according to Harris-Tarkett President Jim Morando, was precipitated by customer demand for more unfinished strip products. "This acquisition, and the just-completed expansion at Stuart Flooring, will almost double our manufacturing capacity in this key segment of the industry," he explained

Harris-Tarkett said it plans to make additional capital investments to upgrade the product lines, add lumber grading and make other improvements to the infrastructure of the newly acquired facility.
