The awards, which took the form of a $1,000 savings bond for each recipient, were presented to the students as part of the Beaulieu Excellence in Education Program year-end celebrations. Teachers from each school nominated students who demonstrated academic achievement, school spirit and leadership. A panel at Beaulieu made the final selections.
The award was named for former First Lady Barbara Bush in recognition of her tireless efforts in support of family literacy.
