Citing its support of the state's abused and neglected children, Shaw Industries has been honored by Georgia as a corporate "Champion for Children." The distinction is part of Georgia First Lady, Mary Perdue‘s "Our Children Campaign" which was launched in 2003 to focus attention on children in state custody.

Last year, Perdue asked Shaw to produce a training video titled "Kids Count on You." The company's in-house production team made the video in cooperation with the Georgia officials. Shaw and Perdue were among those at the premiere October 2004.

In a letter to Shaw, Perdue wrote, "You are to be commended for your work with sponsoring a group home, providing flex-time options for employees who volunteer with foster children, providing adoption assistance for families, providing donations to foster homes, and collaborating with local county agencies to improve child welfare in Georgia. I am delighted that you have qualified as a ‘Champion for Children.'"

Commenting on the award, Shaw's chairman and CEO, Robert E. Shaw, said, "We are honored to be identified with a cause as worthwhile as this. There is nothing more important than the welfare of our children, and healthy families are the best way to ensure a bright future for all of us."

The goal of the Our Children Campaign is to promote collaboration among individuals, corporations, organizations, foundations, and faith-based communities, and to increase volunteerism throughout the state on behalf of Georgia's children.
