Lord Corp., a supplier of coatings technology for the surfaces, panels and flooring industries, has acquired acrylic ultraviolet (UV) and waterborne coatings for wood products manufacturer L/T Technologies LLC.

A joint venture between Lord and Treffert GmbH and Co. KG, L/T Technologies specializes in the development, manufacture and distribution of waterborne and acrylic UV-curable wood coatings for printed composite boards (PB, HDF, HB), hardwood flooring, linear profiles and door skins, as well as furniture foils. Located in Cary, N.C., near Lord's world headquarters, L/T Technologies will continue to operate from its current office at 118 MacKenan Drive, Suite 200.

In addition, L/T will remain the exclusive licensee representing North, Central and South America for the Treffert Group and their wood finishing technology. As such, L/T retains exclusive rights not only to existing technology, but also any new developments or advancements.

"L/T Technologies is an emerging leader in finishing systems for the wood flooring and panels industries and a solid addition to the Lord portfolio," said Ed Gustin, director of Business Development for Lord Corp. "Their commitment to developing leading-edge products that meet the needs of today's OEMs is synergistic with our market goals."

"We are honored to have the opportunity to partner with members of the Lord Corp. team," added Steve Howe, L/T Technologies general manager. "Lord's commitment to research and development will allow us to continue in our quest to develop and manufacture optimal solutions for the industries we serve. Further, their global presence and worldwide manufacturing capabilities will allow us to better serve our clients with a customized local approach."

L/T Technologies' High Performance Coatings (HPC) are typically applied as multi-layer systems by roller coating technology and cured by UV energy. The coatings are either micro-and/or nano-particle modified acrylated resins, which yield extreme hardness resulting in high mechanical resistance to scratch, impact and abrasion.
