The lack of good floor covering installation standards often led to faulty work and millions of dollars in expenses to repair the job. But, a new program called INSTALL is not only meeting standards, it's setting them. INSTALL -- the International Standards and Training Alliance -- is a program created by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.

Kansas City INSTALL and the Heartland Floorcovering Contractors Association will present a four-hour, multi-faceted event for architects and designers to understand how skilled floorcovering enhances the construction industry. The program is scheduled for Thurs., Oct. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Kansas City and Vicinity Carpenters Training Center, 105 West 12th Avenue, North Kansas City, Mo.

The region's largest and most well-known architect and design firms are scheduled to attend.

Other event highlights will include: 26 exhibits from national flooring mills and manufacturers; eight continuing education sessions hosted by leading flooring manufacturers; eight hands-on demonstrations of various skills needed to properly install flooring; and one design and installation competition among the architect/design firms. The competition begins at 4:30. Winners will be announced at 6:30 p.m.

This event marks the official launch of INSTALL in the Kansas City region.
