Looking to expand its presence in the Chinese market, Anderson has signed a licensing and manufacturing deal with PowerDekor, the largest manufacturer of laminate flooring in China and a former Anderson supplier. Plans call for Anderson to create a hardwood flooring assortment of about 45 SKUs for China’s domestic market. The floors will be available in up to 2,000 retail stores owned by PowerDekor.

According to Don Finkell, Anderson’s president and CEO, the partnership comes at a time when the U.S. flooring market is slowing, but China’s economy shows no signs of flagging. “Our market is not too good right now, but theirs is red-hot,” he toldNFT.He said the assortment would take inspiration from  “the American lifestyle.” About one-third of the products will be manufactured in the U.S., while the remaining SKUs will be made in China by PowerDekor using Anderson’s quality control standards, Finkell said.

“We’ve chosen three American lifestyles for the products,” Finkell noted. “New York City will offer sophisticated looks. Miami Beach will be more casual and fun. And Aspen, Colorado, will take a more rustic approach, with a little more Americana thrown in.” All three ranges will be offered in good, better, best formats, and feature a range of Anderson-made floors and floors made in China and licensed under the Anderson name.

Finkell said that the assortment should be ready for placement in 500 stores by the middle of the summer, with more stores to come. The agreement with PowerDekor is set for the next 10 years. Financial terms were not disclosed.
