Donny F. Philips, an Atlanta area retailer with 24 years of industry experience, has been elected chairman of the board of the World Floor Covering Association. Set to begin his duties July 1, Philips said he plans to promote the Floor Covering B2B protocol as well as other industry partnerships. He succeeds Robert A. Hill, CEO of Floor Covering Associates of Shorewood, Ill. who is completing his one-year term.

“I believe working in concert with other components of the flooring industry can only improve business for everyone and fully guarantee the satisfaction and value of a flooring purchase by a customer,” said Philips, who has served on the WFCA board of directors for six years. “For example, you’ll see the WFCA being fully supportive of developing an ANSI standard for carpet installation by working with all interested parties toward that common goal.”

While serving on the WFCA board, Philips will continue his duties as president of Atlanta Flooring Design Centers. He founded the retailer 22 years ago in Duluth, Ga. Today his business includes four storefronts and a commercial division.

WFCA members also elected executives to its board of directors. They include: Jeri Pischke of Home Valu Interiors, Fridley, Minn., as chairman-elect; Brooks Mancini of B.T. Mancini Co., Reno, Nev., as treasurer/CFO; and Sam O’Krent of O’Krent’s Abbey Flooring Center, San Antonio, Texas, as corporate secretary. Vice chairmen include: Fred Schmidt of Century Tile & Carpet, Lombard, Ill.; and Scott Steel, My Flooring America, Webster, Texas. Directors include: John Erbacher, Kelby Frederick, Paul F. Johnson and Jim Walters.

Additionally, the WFCA named Steve Silverman, president and COO of Abbey Carpet and Flooring Co., as associate director. Members of the board of directors serve three-year terms.
