Buyers browse area rugs at last year's Atlanta Rug Market.

The Atlanta International Area Rug Market will be getting more green this year with the introduction of the AmericasMart Green Product Showcase. The showcase, running through the second day of the July 15-18 market, will include more than 300 products, including eco-friendly area rugs, furniture, apparel and gifts. In addition, more than 140 exhibitors are planning to exhibit their latest handmade and machine-made rugs, many of them environmentally sound.

The market will also feature AmericasMart University, a series of seminars and classes aimed at helping area rug dealers improve their bottom line. Three topics -- Retail Business Basics, Buying and Selling, and Building Your Brand – will be broken down into beginner, intermediate and advances sessions.

The agenda will also include two prominent events: the 2nd annual Oriental Rug Importers Association silent auction and the 14th annual Rug Retailer of the Year Awards. The silent auction is set to feature dozens of high-style, hand-knotted rugs. Proceeds will benefit the association’s Charitable Fund, designed to aid impoverished children in countries where oriental rugs are made.

The Rug Retailer of the Year Awards are slated for 6 to 8 p.m. July 16 in the Oceans Ballroom at the Georgia Aquarium. Retailers honored at the event are selected by an independent panel of industry experts, with nominees chosen by exhibitors at the rug market. For more information, visit.
