Zeynep Bodur Okyay, president of tile maker the Kale Group, has been named president of the Ceramic Confederation of Turkey. Along with her duties at Kale, she has a wide range of experience in the tile business, including as president of the Turkish Ceramic Federation (SERFED) and the Istanbul Chamber of Industry’s Environment Committee.
She said she would focus on promoting Turkish tile and growing the segment. “Parallel to the development of our country which has a tremendous growth potential in Europe and in the world, our main objective will be to develop our sector further and contribute to its sustainable growth,” she said. “I believe that the Ceramic Sector will be making a significant contribution to our country’s long-term goal of becoming a regional power by 2010 and a global power by 2020.”
The Ceramic Confederation of Turkey represents a wide range of manufacturers in the ceramic segment, including tile, sanitary ware and plumbing materials. All told, the segment features “a production capacity of 2 billion euros and an exports capacity attaining 1 billion euro levels,” according to the group.
