by Beth Surowiec, Clear Seas Research

by Ray Thompson, Jr., Ray Thompson Floorcovering Institute
Tuesday, Feb. 2, 3 to 4 p.m.

Moisture problems have been plaguing our industry for the last two decades, costing up to $2 million per week. We’ll take a look at some of the issues, including changing adhesive formulations, slab moisture and its effect on adhesives, and resilient backing changes.

Causes and Preventions of Ceramic Tile and Stone Failures
by Donato Pompo, Ceramic Tile And Stone Consultants, Inc.
Wednesday, Feb. 3, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Ceramic and stone tile failures are preventable. Tile should last and perform well for years and years -- it is one of the benefits of using tile. It hurts the whole industry when there is a failure regardless of who is at fault. When there is a failure, everyone pays one way or the other in either dollars, time, or reputation. Add value to your business and minimize your liability by helping your clients make sure their tiles are installed correctly and are suitable for the intended use.

The common causes of ceramic tile and natural stone tile failures will be covered along with the appropriate standards and methods that should be utilized by installers and specified by architects. The importance of training installers and the Quality Assurance and Quality Control sections of the architect's specifications in avoiding failures will be reviewed.

by Jim Walker, International Certified Floorcovering Installers (CFI)
