Mohawk has published its first annual sustainability report,A Better World by Design, exclusively online atwww.mohawksustainability.com. The report details the company’s focus on sustainable products, and its people and practices that support the planet.

“Mohawk is a company centered around bringing value to everything we do,” said Jeff Lorberbaum, chairman and ceo of Mohawk Industries. “Innovations that bring about positive change to our business, our stakeholders and our communities are the foundations of this report.”

Mohawk practices sustainability in a variety of ways, from the millions of bottles recycled yearly and made into carpet in Summerville, Ga., to the environmentally friendly laminate products manufactured in Europe and North Carolina. “It’s not simply about being green,” said William Kilbride, Mohawk’s chief sustainability officer. “We must ensure that the environment and all of our stakeholders benefit in the long run. That is only achieved through open and honest communication.”

A Better World by Designis a comprehensive report constructed according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines,” noted Jenny Cross, global sustainability director at Mohawk. “Sustainability is about transparency and assurance. We felt it was our duty to provide our stakeholders with a report backed by solid documentation, and third-party assurance from an internationally recognized sustainability auditing firm.”

The Sustainability team at Mohawk enlisted FIRA as the report assurance provider. FIRA, headquartered in The Netherlands, is a global company that has worked with several best in class companies and has an in-depth knowledge of sustainability and GRI.
