Parker, Colo.-based Artistic Floors by Design, Inc. was one of the big winners of the recent Wood Floor of the Year Awards, announced during the National Wood Flooring Association’s (NWFA) 2012 annual convention in Orlando, Fla. The project, which won in the Designers' Choice category, was selected by a panel of interior designers from nearly 100 floors.

Owner Joseph Rocco conceptualized, installed, sanded, and finished the award-winning floor. He has 20 years’ industry experience and incorporated Artistic Floors by Design, Inc. six years ago. The floor incorporates stained and aniline-dyed red oak in raised panels surrounded by quarter-sawn sapele wood in a basket weave pattern with a curved exterior border.Sapele is a tree native to Africa that contains a velvety grain pattern similar to mahogany.

Owner Joseph Rocco specializes in custom wood flooring, including stairs, inlays, and unique patterns. His residential and commercial work can be seen in and around Denver, from custom-built mountain homes to the Residences at The Four Seasons. Additionally, he is a member of the NWFA’s Board of Directors, an NWFA Certified Professional (Expert Installation and Expert Sanding and Finishing Techniques), and received his Craftsman Degree at this most recent National Wood Flooring Association Convention.
