Johnsonite, the commercial arm of Tarkett, recently received asthma & allergy friendly certification for its iQTM vinyl flooring and I.D. Inspiration luxury vinyl plank flooring lines.

Allergy Standards Limited (ASL), in partnership with top medical experts and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), created the asthma & allergy friendly Certification Program in 2006 in the United States. The certification program independently tests and identifies products that are compatible with people living with asthma and related allergies.

Johnsonite iQ vinyl flooring and I.D. Inspiration luxury vinyl plank flooring were granted a certificate stating that the floor covering meets the requirements for the asthma & allergy friendly ASP:05:01 certification standard.

To meet the standard, the floor covering is evaluated in four areas:

  • A low capacity for allergen retention
  • The effectiveness of removing accumulated allergen from the floor covering when the manufacturer’s recommended cleaning procedures are used
  • The recommended cleaning procedures of the floor covering must not contribute to a significant increase in airborne allergen levels that may result in redistribution of, rather than overall reduction of allergen
  • Exposure to airborne solvents and other irritant or toxic materials during floor covering installation or, when in use, must not exceed certification thresholds

Johnsonite promotes circular design, which leads to its comprehensive offering of environmentally responsible products. The breadth of certifications, ranging from material use to manufacturing conditions, and from end-of-use practices to occupant health, ensures customers that Tarkett is focused on every aspect of sustainable production. In addition to the asthma & allergy friendly certification, Johnsonite’s products are USDA BioPreferredSM (Harmonium xf linoleum); NSF/ANSI 332 Platinum (Ecolibrium Bio-Based Wall Base, iQ Granit, iQ Optima, iQ Natural and Harmonium xf); NSF/ANSI 332 Gold (Azrock VCT, TexTile and standard rubber tile); Cradle to Cradle (Harmonium xf and rubber tile); and most commercial products are FloorScore certified contributing to better indoor air quality. Additionally, all North America plants have achieved ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certification.
