International Concrete Repair Institute to Offer Certifications at Surfaces/StonExpo

Surfaces and ICRI are partnering to provide the floor covering industry a new certification at Surfaces | StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas 2014. The ICRI Concrete Slab Moisture Testing Certification Program will be offered for the first time at the show, allowing attendees the opportunity to become certified on Monday, January 27 and Tuesday, January 28.

ICRI, a leading resource for education and information to improve the quality of repair, restoration and protection of concrete and other structures, is pleased to offer this program at SURFACES | StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas with two tiers that attendees can choose from. The purpose of this program is to help improve the performance of concrete slab moisture testing to result in more consistent, accurate and reliable results that will help flooring manufacturers, architects, engineers and contractors make better decisions as to when a concrete floor is ready for a floor covering installation.

Tier 1 certification, the Concrete Slab Moisture Testing Educational Program and the accompanying ICRI Concrete Slab Moisture Testing Written Examination, will focus on certifying those who are not regularly engaged in moisture testing, yet have an active interest in learning more about the tests, what the tests mean, and how the tests should be performed. This certification will be open to anyone. Those who successfully complete this portion of the program, including passing the written examination, will be awarded a Letter of Achievement from ICRI.

The full certification program, Tier 2, ICRI Concrete Slab Moisture Testing Technician—Grade 1, consists of the same 3-hour educational session, written exam, and a field testing performance exam. By passing both the written and field testing performance exams, an ICRI Concrete Slab Moisture Testing Technician—Grade 1 certification will be issued by ICRI to those who successfully demonstrate the knowledge and ability to properly perform and record the results of each of the four field moisture tests on hardened concrete. Those who pass both the written and field testing performance exams will receive a certificate and a wallet registration card.

Pamela Miller, Associate Show Manager for Surfaces | StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas commented, “This certification will add more depth to our already diversified education program and enhance the continued value Surfaces | StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas brings to attending professionals.”

Kelly Page, Executive Director of ICRI said, “ICRI offers the only concrete slab moisture testing certification in the industry today. ICRI certified technicians have demonstrated their ability to perform the tests necessary for assessing slab moisture and floor covering installations per ASTM standards. We’re very happy to make this certification available to the floor covering industry at Surfaces | StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas.”

Registration for Surfaces | StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas will open in September. Surfaces | StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas 2014 will be held January 27-30 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Las Vegas, NV. Exhibits will be open Tuesday-Thursday and the Education Program opens Monday, January 27 and continues through Thursday.
