MIA CEU ClassThe Marble Institute of America (MIA) has launched a new online CEU course as part of Hanley Wood University.

The course, titled Organizations, Resources, and Standards Relevant to Natural Stone, explains where to find key sources of information relevant to the natural stone industry. Participants will learn the history of several organizations, identify the publications and standards they produce, and see practical examples of why each organization is relevant to the design professional. This course has been approved for CEU credits by AIA and LACES and is pending approval from IDCEC. Development of this course was made possible through a generous sponsorship from Coldspring of Cold Spring, Minn.

Sarah Kelly, MIA's CEU administrator, said, "The new online course is a great addition to our CEU program resources. Architects and designers can get additional continuing education credit, courtesy of the MIA. It is also a great resource for anyone in the stone industry. There is no charge to participate and you can access it at your convenience."

MIA's Technical Director, Chuck Muehlbauer, added, "The MIA takes continuing education very seriously and considers it to be an important tool for professionals to stay current with changing times.  But we also understand that the schedules and training budgets of today’s professionals may not allow them to attend many sessions in person.  This online program is a perfect solution – it’s available 24/7 and it’s free of charge!  I expect many will take advantage of this opportunity."

Learning objectives for the course are as follows:

Establish an awareness of the multiple organizations that influence natural stone standards

Identify publications created to satisfy the information needs of the stone industry

Create a clear understanding of which resources are to be cited for specific information needs

Provide a means of contact for each of the discussed organizations.
