Earlier this month officials from Uzin Utz helped break ground in Dover, Del., on the company’s first dry mortar plant in the U.S.

Uzin Utz AG, the parent company of Uzin Utz Manufacturing North America and UFloor Systems broke ground Tuesday, May 20 on its first U.S. dry mortar plant in Dover, Del. located at the Garrison Oak Technical Park.

The 53,000 square feet facility will house the company’s first U.S. production of self-leveling and patching compounds, an R&D and training center and the offices for Uzin Utz. Joining Werner Utz, CEO of Uzin Utz and Philipp Utz, Uzin Utz president, were Gov. Jack Markell, Lt. Gov. Matt Denn, Mayor David Bonar, Alan Levin, director of the Delaware Economic Development Office as well as other city and state officials.

“Since coming into office five years ago, my goal has been to have Delaware compete and win on the global playing field, said Gov. Markell. "Today, we're celebrating yet another win. Uzin Utz is the textbook definition of an anchor tenant. With more than a century of excellence, the parent company is both stable and secure. And in Philipp Utz, the company’s subsidiary is led by a fourth-generation executive who will merge Uzin Utz’s tradition of excellence with its ideas for tomorrow.”

Founded by Georg Utz in 1911, Uzin Utz AG is a family-run company that specializes in professional installation systems for all types of floor coverings including leveling compounds, moisture mitigation systems and adhesives for carpet, resilient and wood flooring.

“With this manufacturing plant we demonstrate our strong commitment to U.S. customers, the State of Delaware and the City of Dover,” Philipp Utz said. “Garrison Oak Technical Park provides an ideal location with access to a skilled workforce and modern infrastructure that will allow us to expand the plant in the future.”

According to the company, the plant will create 23 new jobs including the addition of three chemical engineers, who will focus their attention on developing products exclusively for the North American flooring market. This new facility comes after two years of strong distributor development and sales growth within the U.S. The new facility is scheduled to begin production in April 2015.
