Keith Gray, J+J director of product innovation, will present “The Human-Centered Properties of Flooring" at The Center for Health Design’s “Innovations in Healthcare Design" event.

J+J Flooring Group is sponsoring The Center for Health Design’s (CHD) New York Networking & Design event titled “Innovations in Healthcare Design” on Sept. 18.

At the event, Keith Gray, J+J director of product innovation, will present “The Human-Centered Properties of Flooring.”

Gray’s presentation will reveal J+J Flooring Group’s findings from research used to develop a series of technical papers regarding the implications of flooring in healthcare facilities. Citing technical research studies and a diverse body of peer-reviewed literature, Gray will point out recent data on how flooring affects acoustics, mobility, slip/fall injuries, anti-fatigue performance and the spread of disease. The findings will assist architects, designers and facility planners in making well-informed flooring decisions based on human-centered metrics, according to the company.

“Human-centered metrics plays a critical role in designing, building and operating health facilities today,” said Gray. “Understanding and applying these metrics properly can lead to safer buildings that also improve the quality of life for patients and those who work in these buildings. We are delighted to share our findings and discuss how the proper flooring solution can create positive outcomes for all involved.”

According to Gray, J+J Flooring has extensively promoted the principals of evidence-based design and human-centered metrics through the creation of focused continuing education units, technical documents and product research.

J+J Flooring's involvement with the New York Networking event extends its existing partnership with the CHD. The company began partnering with the CHD in 2012 and will serve as the primary sponsor of the organization’s Research Coalition meeting in Atlanta in October.

Short presentations by Gray and other industry professionals in the healthcare design field will kick-off the event at the Steelcase Showroom, (4 Columbus Circle, New York), at 4:30 p.m. A brief panel discussion with audience Q&A will follow the presentations. The event will conclude with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres overlooking Columbus Circle and Central Park. Attendees will receive one EDAC/AIA credit.
