Tarkett's Acczent and Ruby heterogeneous flooring products are now certified asthma and allergy friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA).

“The health and well-being of the people that use our products is of the upmost importance from installation, to maintenance and ongoing use," said Diane Martel, vice president of environmental planning and strategy for Tarkett. “This certification reflects our commitment to creating products that contribute to healthier environments at every stage of the product life cycle.”

As an independent, third-party certification program, the asthma and allergy friendly certification helps consumers identify products that are scientifically proven to be more suitable for people with asthma and related allergic sensitivities, according to the company. Certified flooring products are scientifically tested to prove that they have a low capacity for retention of allergens, and any allergens collected can be removed by the recommended cleaning techniques. Going beyond the composition and cleaning process, installation of certified flooring must not result in elevated levels of chemicals such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde or other VOCs.

The newly certified products include: Ruby vinyl sheet, Acczent Heterogeneous vinyl sheet and the 2015 breakthrough product, Acczent Flourish.
