Calhoun, Ga.– Halstead and Metroflor announced that they have donated $100,000 to the Unidos Disaster Relief Fund. The contribution reflects the company’s deep historical commitment to philanthropy in a meaningful way, particularly in response to natural disasters. Over the years, the company and its owners, the Stone family, have donated significant funds and flooring product to help aid people in need due to such catastrophes.

“Alexander Hamilton (the man) constantly informs us and Hamilton (the musical) constantly inspires us. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator and star of Hamilton, has been an emotional and galvanizing voice about the tragedy taking place in Puerto Rico. Lin-Manuel has requested that people consider donating to The Hispanic Federation and support their efforts to save lives in Puerto Rico. The Hispanic Federation has set up the Unidos Disaster Relief Fund with 100% of all funds raised to go directly to help the people of Puerto Rico,” said Michael Kaminsky, Halstead’s COO.

According to José Calderón, president of the Hispanic Federation, the situation is still dire in Puerto Rico. “Eleven weeks after Hurricane Maria, it is inexcusable that millions of American citizens still languish without access to food, clean water, stable communication, electricity and proper medical care,” said Calderón. “We are grateful to the Halstead/Metroflor organization and its employees for this donation to support our Puerto Rico relief efforts. We will continue to do everything we can to help families and communities throughout Puerto Rico recover and heal.”

In addition to the company’s gift, any donations made to the Unidos Disaster Relief Fund by Halstead and Metroflor employees will be matched dollar for dollar by Harlan and Sabina Stone. To date an additional $6,000 has been raised.

“When Maria hit Puerto Rico, there was already disaster fatigue setting in across the country from the damage caused by hurricanes Harvey and Irma,” said Harlan Stone, Group CEO. “But we cannot forgo our compassion because we are tired. Our hearts must remain open when people are in need. The Halstead and Metroflor organizations are at the ready, and our employees have joined ownership with a resounding: ‘Yes we will,’ when asked if they too want to give. We share the culture of caring with many of our customers and partners in the flooring industry, and now is the time to step up and say, ‘We are here for you,’ to our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico.”
