Tarkett Breaks New Ground in Sustainability Reporting, Leads Flooring Industry with EU Compliance

Tarkett has become the first global flooring company to meet the new European Union Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) legislation, highlighting its continued leadership in sustainable manufacturing practices. The company's 2024 Sustainability Statement, fully audited by independent third parties, showcases significant progress in its environmental and social commitments.
CEO Fabrice Barthélemy emphasized the importance of this achievement: "The European CSRD legislation is a major step forward in paving the way for greater corporate social and environmental responsibility. For Tarkett, it has been an accelerator to help us identify our most material issues."
Tarkett's sustainability credentials have been recognized with multiple prestigious awards, including a Platinum Medal from EcoVadis, placing the company in the top 1% of 130,000 companies rated across 180 countries. In February 2025, the company joined CDP's A list, ranking among the top 2% of 24,800 companies rated on climate performance.
The company's climate roadmap, approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in early 2023, has already delivered a 23% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain over the past five years.
Key sustainability achievements in 2024 include:
- Using 157,000 tons of recycled materials in production, representing 19% of raw materials
- Expanding the ReStart® take-back and recycling program to 29 countries across 5 continents
- Increasing women in management positions to 29%, nearly reaching the 2025 target of 30%
- Collecting 124,000 tons of end-of-life flooring through the ReStart® program over 14 years
Roxane Spears, sustainability vice president of Tarkett North America, noted: "A company's ability to clearly and transparently articulate its progress towards more sustainable design and manufacturing has become an essential part of doing business. Sustainability is now a focal point for all types of building projects across North America."
Tarkett's commitment to sustainable materials is evident in products like the iD Latitude collection, made with 40% recycled content, and the ethos® Modular carpet backing, which contains up to 79% recycled content, including post-use PVB from laminated safety glass that has a carbon footprint 96% lower than virgin PVC backing.
