The Tile Council of North America (TCNA) presented its prestigious Tile Person of the Year award to Roger Klein at Coverings 2025, recognizing his more than 25 years of dedicated service as legal counsel to the organization.
"It has been my privilege and pleasure to serve as legal counsel to TCNA for more than 25 years," Klein said upon receiving the award. "I am deeply honored to be named TCNA Tile Person of the Year. It is difficult to believe that I am receiving an award for doing work that I have enjoyed so much."
TCNA Executive Director Eric Astrachan praised Klein's contributions: "Roger's contributions to TCNA, Coverings, and the tile industry are truly immeasurable. His exceptional skill, legal expertise, and wise counsel have left a lasting mark, evident not only in the success of his work but also in the trust he instilled and respect he earned throughout his distinguished career."
Astrachan highlighted Klein's approach to legal matters, noting that "Roger made sure ego never played a part in any decision, and he always counseled for less lawyering and more negotiating."
Klein has practiced corporate and transactional law for more than 50 years and currently serves as general counsel at Shulman Rogers, a full-service law firm headquartered in Potomac, Maryland. His career includes serving as counsel in acquisitions totaling billions of dollars, involving defense contractors, major sports facilities, luxury cruise ships, and numerous publications.
Previously, Klein was the general counsel and managing partner of the Washington, D.C., office of a US-based multinational law firm, where he helped organize offices in Europe and Asia.
A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis and Georgetown University Law Center, Klein has balanced his professional career with significant pro bono work, serving as general counsel to various charities, including the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and the Montgomery County Students Construction Trades Foundation.
