Home improvement services marketplace platform Angi has launched an AI Helper feature designed to enhance the connection between homeowners and service professionals by creating more accurate service requests. The announcement coincides with the company's 30th anniversary and addresses research showing 45% of homeowners experience stress due to lack of repair knowledge.
The AI system uses large language models and conditional questions developed with input from service professionals to translate homeowner descriptions into precise technical language. When homeowners describe issues in their own words—such as noticing a water spot above a shower—the AI can identify multiple trade professionals may be needed for comprehensive repairs.
Key Performance Metrics:
- 30% improvement in match accuracy compared to traditional methods
- Reduces professional concerns about service request mismatches
- Addresses homeowner anxiety about project complexity
"Over time, we learned that many homeowners—especially millennials—feel stressed about repairs due to a lack of knowledge and are overwhelmed by the complexity of projects," said Angie Hicks, co-founder of Angi. "This new AI-powered feature exemplifies our commitment to evolving with our community's needs."
The system continuously trains on historical data and real-world interactions while incorporating ongoing feedback from service professionals. Early testing shows promising results for both match quality and user experience.
