Italian ceramics manufacturer Atlas Concorde has secured a U.S. patent for Sensitech, its innovative porcelain tile surface technology that addresses a long-standing challenge in the flooring industry: creating surfaces that are both slip-resistant and easy to clean.
Traditional anti-slip tiles feature rough surfaces with deep grooves that provide friction but trap dirt and debris, making maintenance difficult. Sensitech solves this problem by filling surface depressions with microparticles while preserving the peaks that generate friction. This creates a smoother, more pleasant-to-touch surface that maintains high slip resistance while dramatically improving cleanability.
The technology is available for both indoor applications (R10 B coefficient) and outdoor use (R11 C coefficient), making it suitable for bathrooms, commercial spaces, pool areas, and industrial environments where safety and hygiene are critical.
The innovation represents an advancement for architects and designers who previously had to choose between safety and maintenance ease when specifying flooring for high-risk slip areas.
