According to just-released test results sponsored by the Carpet Cushion Council (CCC) and the Alliance for Flexible Polyurethane Foam (AFPF), the use of properly specified commercial carpet cushion “significantly enhances” a carpet’s sound-absorption properties.

According to the acoustics study conducted by Intertek Testing Services, carpet installed with commercial cushion exhibited as much as double the sound absorption of carpet without cushion.

The research shows that carpet alone, direct-glued to a concrete substrate, absorbs roughly 25 percent of the sound directed at it. In contrast, tests indicated that carpet installed with commercial bonded-polyurethane cushion underneath it absorbs roughly 55 percent of the sound.
