Shaw Industries Group, Inc. said it will close Plant 20, a carpet manufacturing facility located on Riverbend Drive, in Dalton, Ga., in the "very near future." The production volume from this facility will be moved to other Shaw carpet manufacturing plants. Approximately 270 associates will be affected by this closing.

This consolidation will provide a more balanced production flow, as well as improved work schedules and efficiencies, according to Shaw. Shaw expects a number of Plant 20 associates to secure positions at other Shaw facilities in the area in the short term, and will continue to make additional positions available as openings occur. Shaw is working closely with the Georgia Department of Labor’s Rapid Response Unit to identify additional training or other career opportunities for associates that choose to not stay with the company.

In a statement, the company said, "Shaw expresses its sincere gratitude to the associates at Plants 20 for their years of support and service. The decision to close Plant 20 in no way reflects on their performance. Shaw will continue to position and strengthen its manufacturing base, not only to compete today, but to better position itself for growth as conditions improve in the future. Shaw is confident that innovation from its nearly 24,000 associates will continue to drive our industry leadership, positioning Shaw to thrive in the years ahead."
