Hakatai glass mosaic tiles were specified by CQ Interior Design for the home of U of Oregon law professor Merle Weiner for a floor to ceiling shower in the only LEED designed and certified home on the 17 stop Eugene Homes Tour 2010.

Hakatai recently made an appearance in the 25th Annual Eugene Tour of Homes at the only LEED certified stop in the mix of 17 new residential projects featured in 2010. CQ Interior Design, Los Angeles and Portland, worked closely with the homeowner in the floor to ceiling shower specification of the Emperia series of mixed-medium glass mosaic and natural stone tiles from Hakatai.

The weeklong tour hosted by the Home Builders Association of Lane County, OR, celebrated its silver anniversary by showcasing the work of 14 professional home builders and interior designers. The home of Merle Weiner and her husband, professors at the University of Oregon School of Law, features 156 square feet of the Emperia series for the full shower in the guest powder room and bath on the first floor. The couple’s new “dream home” is just the third home in all of Lane County to earn certification in the LEED for Homes rating system.

CQ Interior Design says it discovered the antiquated feel from the stone in the Emperia series balanced with the iridescent glass mosaics smooth, water-like surface texture in the design phases.

“The homeowner wanted a very contemporary feel,” said Cher Quigley, principal of CQ Interior Design. “We had even considered gold tiles when we first started out. She was thrilled when she got the samples from Hakatai. The house is set in the mountains with trees everywhere. We used old-fashioned style wallpaper and kept it modern with the shower tiles and the iridescence. Hakatai was easy to work with and the whole process was great. They were flexible and very open, and much more cost-effective.”
