I can’t imagine a
world without carpet. Carpet improves the acoustics in my home, so I never miss
a spoken word. It’s soft, so I can go a round or two with my son who likes to
show me the latest wrestling move he’s learned on the school team. It’s
beautiful, comfortable, safe, healthy – and, unfortunately, losing market
share.
Armstrong is celebrating 100 years of producing linoleum for
the North American market. To ring in the occasion, the company has unveiled
new linoleum patterns and colors, along with a “Color Continuum” specifying
system. While the company is not planning an advertising campaign to promote
the 100th anniversary, Armstrong said it will mark its milestone at
the upcoming NeoCon and Greenbuild shows, and host an exhibit at the company’s
Lancaster, Pa., headquarters with vintage advertising.
Alliance Flooring, parent company of CarpetsPlus Color Tile, Carpetland Color Tile and Floorco Direct to the Trade, held its 12th annual convention earlier this month at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville. Carrying the theme "United We Stand," the meeting was aimed at reminding members that working together they could find ways to power through this tough economy.
The North American Laminate Flooring Association named the winners of the trade group’s Lammy Awards during the recent Surfaces show in Las Vegas. Designed to honor the best laminate flooring companies and individuals of the year, for "positive accomplishments with regard to the laminate flooring industry," NALFA said.
Organizers of Coverings 2009, the four-day annual
show set for April 21-24 at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL, say they are
preparing to offer the estimated more than 37,000 people from over 50 countries
an educational line-up that addresses the current economic environment.
Laminate flooring
makers are pushing ahead with new designs and technologies aimed at luring
consumers back into retailers’ stores. They note the segment is evolving with
new medium-gloss finishes that bring a subtle, upscale look to laminate
flooring. Additionally, they say a range of new folding locking installation
systems make the flooring easier to install than ever before.
Against a backdrop of
economic uncertainty, Surfaces 2009, held recently at the Sands Expo &
Convention Center in Las Vegas, will be remembered as an important show for
attendees and exhibitors alike.
Consumers’ seemingly
bottomless appetite for Green products is paving the way for cork flooring to
enter the mainstream, according to Anne Reynolds, president of A.P.C. Cork. She
notes that new and innovative looks in the segment are also enticing more
people toward the product.
