Mohawk Commercial Carpet Group is significantly increasing its commitment to technology that produces highly realistic carpet samples printed on paper. The approach, pioneered by the Tricycle Inc. of Chattanooga, Tenn., greatly reduces the cost and environmental impact of producing samples. Mohawk, which has been using the technique for its Lees division, now plans to expand its deal with Tricycle to cover all Mohawk Commercial brands.
Tarkett Commercial president Gilles de Beaumont has been named president of The Resilient Floor Covering Institute (RFCI) for a two-year term that will begin next year. He succeeds Brian Carson, senior vp innovation for Armstrong, who has served as president of the trade organization since 2003. In his role as president, de Beaumont will be responsible for the organization's business affairs, while continuing to work with its board of directors
Mohawk representatives are set to hit the road for 35 regional dealer meetings. Beginning in December with events in Florida and moving across the nation through February, this year's regional show schedule marks the third year Mohawk has hosted local events to educate dealers and promote its products. The undertaking, "Across The Nation - National Product Tour 2006," is designed to accommodate dealer needs in each Mohawk distribution region. The events will include single city, multi-day events as well as traveling shows that will cover specific areas in a single day.
Shaw Industries has announced its schedule of winter shows that will begin with a three-day meeting in Chicago, Jan. 5. The company say the 27-city tour will Shaw representatives with an opportunity to give customers a level of individual attention they seldom find at large trade shows. "Regional events have given us and our customers what we both want and expected - quality time," says Scott Sandlin, Shaw's vice president of marketing.
Honeywell said it has finalized the sale of its U.S. nylon carpet fibers business to Shaw. The deal includes nylon fiber plants in Anderson, Clemson and Columbia, S.C., and Honeywell's 50 percent stake in Evergreen Nylon Recycling, based in Augusta, Ga. The companies also agreed to a long-term deal that calls for Honeywell to supply Shaw with caprolactam and nylon resin, two intermediate chemicals used in the production of nylon fibers for carpeting and other applications. Terms of the deal where not disclosed.

Saying it has "no choice" but to pass along the increased cost of raw materials, Domco will raise the price on its resilient flooring products from 3 percent to 6 percent beginning Dec. 1, 2005. The Farnham, Quebec-based company said the increases are a result of the continued escalation in raw materials and transportation costs. "Throughout this year, we have initiated efficiencies across all of our operations to keep our costs in line," said vice president, sales and marketing Stephan Guindon. "However, with the continued pricing pressures in the marketplace, we have no choice but to pass along some of our increases to our customers."
In a bid to draw more attendance from Midwest states, organizers of the Coverings meeting said they will begin alternating the event between its present location in Orlando and Chicago. While next year's edition of the tile and stone show is still scheduled to take place in Orlando, April 4-7, the following year it will move to Chicago's McCormick Place Convention Center where it will be held from April 17-20, 2007. Previously, the show was held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.
Mannington Mills has announced a new "Never Yellow" guarantee to its resilient flooring warranty. The Property managers consistently cite "yellowing" from rubber backed mats as one of the leading reasons to prematurely replace resilient flooring. "It's always exciting to deliver on something the customer requested" said David Sheehan, Mannington's director of resilient business. "This will extend the life of many floors and require fewer change outs." The company said it made the move in response to requests from property managers and "end users in the multi-family industry." The company said it is the first manufacturer to offer this warranty, which is applicable to all residential resilient sheet vinyl products.
