Dalton, Ga. -- The Carpet America Recover Effort (CARE) reported that the California carpet assessment increased on January 1 to $0.35 per square yard of carpet sold in the state, up from $0.25. Assessment funds are mandated by California carpet stewardship law and support efforts to increase the amount of carpet diverted from landfills and recycled into secondary products.

Following the increase, CARE has issued a revised brochure with additional focus on how assessment funds are being used. The brochure is designed to explain the assessment to consumers while showing how carpet is being recycled into useful products. It can be viewed here and copies can be ordered by email.
